Dr. Shabbir is a leading researcher and a principal investigator at the International Center for Health Information Technology, he holds tenured position as an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Informatics at Taipei Medical University, Taipei, Taiwan. He is an educator for MOOCs on FutureLearn, his renowned courses being Social Media in Healthcare and Internet of Things for Active Aging. He is also an author of 59 scientific research papers published in renowned journals like Lancet, Journal of Medical Internet Research, Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, etc. Studies cover variety of important topics in healthcare related with Information and communication technologies such as the role of social networking in healthcare, utilizing Artificial Intelligence and probabilistic models for decision support systems, health information sharing, management and flow of medical information and comparing electronic medical record and paper-based records. His interests prevail to empower care providers and improve patient engagement. He feels one of the way to achieve it is to focus on the management and flow of the health/medical information among health care providers.
